Modern luxury living…
…against a medieval backdrop
Think of a magnificent English Manor House in the grand old style, and you’re imagining somewhere exactly like Cornwell Manor. Perfect for large family gatherings, house parties and parties, celebratory dinners, dancing, charity auctions or musical evenings the house exudes style and sophistication. Perhaps that is why it has been used so often as for period dramas and fashion shoots. And it is a favourite for weddings where up to 300 guests can be accommodated in a marquee on the lawn, a splendid setting overlooking the lakes. Or maybe it’s just a special family weekend together to celebrate a birthday or anniversary. Whatever brings you to the Manor, you’re sure to be enchanted.
Live in Classic English Style
Walk into the main entrance hall, in the classic English Country style, take in the stone floor and 18th Century fireplace which, when the fire is burning, is the perfect welcome home after a day out walking or riding, And it is ideal for afternoon tea, a dinner or drinks party or somewhere to meet and greet your guests. Wander into the drawing room, which has an Adam-style chimneypiece and Rococo plasterwork. Your eyes will be drawn above the fireplace to the family portrait of Rachel, Countess of Dudley and her son Roderick Ward. And you will be enchanted by the glamour, style and the sheer beauty of it all – topped off by those wonderful views over the garden. On into the dining room, with it’s original Jacobean panelling and table seating sixteen: perfect for intimate dinner parties and family Sunday lunches. The recently refurbished ballroom is a gem: licensed for weddings, it can seat up to 100 for a ceremony, or 80 for a dinner. Beautifully classical with a traditional minstrels’ gallery and tapestries adorning the walls, it has a wonderful carved oak fireplace above which hangs an impressive mirror.
Sleep well and sleep in style
The house sleeps sixteen comfortably but we can accommodate up to 24 with a bit of jiggery-pokery. The bedrooms, which look over the formal lakes and of the surrounding Cotswold countryside, are stunning. The blue bedroom has a magnificent Regency carved bed, and classic furniture while next door the bedroom is decorated light yellow and has a four-poster bed, a comfortable sitting area, and en suite bathroom. The master has been is in a modern French style, with blue walls, a large cupboard, and bed and a sofa. There is a large modern bathroom with walk in shower and a dressing room. On up, the attic floor has three more bedrooms with bathrooms.
A peaceful house, surrounded by woods, water and fields
Plenty to do…
in the house and further afield
The house itself has a splendid outdoor heated pool (end-May to mid-Sep), a sauna and a full sized tennis court. The gardens are magnificent and you can spend a little time simply exploring the magic of your immediate surroundings. This is a working estate with arable, cattle and sheep-farming. The bird-friendly environment includes two wetlands areas and the estate is home to nesting lapwings, grey-lag geese, swans, and game birds. There are deer, hares and, fantastically, otters. In the immediate area you can enjoy, fishing, walking, biking, or riding, and there is a wonderful spa just five minutes away. The hamlet of Cornwell is an un-modernised medieval village with a small canal running through it and a kiddies’ playground.
Nearby you can visit the towns of Stowe-on-the-Wold and Chipping Norton. As well as boasting some very fining restaurants, you can visit the theatre, take part in motorsports or visit the mystical Rollright Stones. The nearest golf course is only twenty minutes away and our advice is to visit the Church of St Mary, which has one of the finest interiors of the great Cotswold churches.
Or back in the grounds we can arrange for a garden party or, for something a little different, we can organise a whole evening of events for you, incorporating a gourmet barbecue supper, with al fresco seating, and finishing with music around the campfire. Or go one further and hire the house for the weekend together with a few bell tents for your very own festival. We can even arrange hot tubs by the lake with open air yoga and massage to complete the picture. What a wonderful way to spend time with friends and family!
