Keswick Country Manor (1)

Keswick Country Manor North of England

The lure of the lakes and the fascination of the fells…

This Keswick 10 Bedroom Manor House really is something special. If you have a party of up to 20 guests who are looking for somewhere truly luxurious in one of the best locations in the country, look no further than this house in the Lake District. It is close enough to walk to local facilities and yet completely secluded because it sits in five acres of its own land with the most wonderful views in every direction. Combining old-fashioned elegance with a contemporary twist, it marries the best of the past with the ultimate in modern living. And it has a rare quality too: it is grand and regal, and yet it is a house where you will really feel totally relaxed and at home.

The family room is a wonderful place to gather together and relax, possibly play a game or two or have a pre-dinner aperitif. It’s a great place to enjoy afternoon tea while taking in the incredible views that are a stunning highlight of this wonderful place. And the sitting room is a superb place for a quiet read or an afternoon snooze!

If it’s a bit of peace and quiet you’re after, there are snugs and cosy seats to snuggle up in, TV to watch or music to soothe the soul. And when it's time to eat, the dining room is perfect for a formal family feast while the orangery is just the spot for an informal lunch. Every room, every corridor, every corner of this manor house is finished with style and panache. The attention to detail is one of the factors that make this a super place to stay.

Guest reviews

We fell in love with Keswick Country Manor the moment we arrived. We booked to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday with friends and family and the location, the house and everything simply could not have been better. The location is perfect for enjoying the incredible scenery of the lakes. We had a chef to come in and cook a celebratory meal for us which was just perfect. I have not stopped recommending this place to everyone since I came back! Thank you Big House Experience!

Cooking and dining

We know that everybody has different ideas when it comes to food and drink but whatever your plans, we can help. If you have budding chefs in your party, they will love the facilities in both kitchens including the superb Rangemaster cooker and the American style fridge freezers. But if you’d rather take it easy and spend your time out and about (and why wouldn’t you?), we offer a huge range of alternatives. For example we could arrange to drop off delicious casseroles ready for you to pop in the oven, or serve up a delicious buffet. Or we can provide fully-fledged, waitress-served in-house catering. The choice is yours.

If you are celebrating something special, why not do it in style with a grand dinner party in the stunning wood-panelled dining room? We’ll look after it all for you, from lighting the candles to taking care of the washing-up and everything in between.

For informal meals, the orangery is perfect. What better than a convivial breakfast taking in the stunning views of the ever changing mountains? And when the weather permits, there is always the al-fresco, tree-flanked dining terrace where eating in the fresh country air is a total pleasure.

Of course, if you’d rather eat out there are great options within walking distance or a short drive away. You really will be spoilt for choice.

And so to bed…

After a busy day out on the fells, on the water, or simply exploring the shops, there is nothing better than a good night’s sleep. You can sleep twenty people in ten grand, luxurious and delectably comfortable bedrooms. One of the rooms is on the ground floor with its own en-suite wet room, perfect for guests with mobility issues.

Eight of the bedrooms are king doubles (six of which are en suite; two of them share a bathroom) with two en-suite twins rooms that the children will love! All the rooms are wonderfully decorated but the décor, good as it is, plays second fiddle to the stunning views. By the way, if you need to squeeze in an extra one, there’s even a zed bed!

Lots to see and do…

The house sits in five acres of private grounds, perfect for an evening stroll before supper, a friendly game of cricket or croquet, or hide-and-seek with the kids. Alternatively, you can let the kids play hide and seek while you enjoy a convivial drink on the terrace or in the orangery. Or venture over to the garden pavilion and throw a steak on the barbie!

By the way, we provide the cricket and croquet sets and the footballs. It’s fun to set up a little league to add a touch of competitiveness to your stay. There are lots of wonderful walks you can take straight from the house but if you want to jump in the car, it opens up the grand expanse of this most wonderful part of the world. Not very far away you can find clay pigeon shooting, archery, off-road driving, go karting, quad biking and paintballing. Kayaking, sailing and canoeing are all available on the lakes.

Why not take a stroll into Keswick? It’s only a 20-minute walk. You can while away a leisurely morning browsing round the characterful shops, boutiques, pubs, cafes and restaurants. There is even a theatre and, if time permits, it is well worth taking in a show. And it has a fascinating history for you to explore.

But for us, the landscape always beckons; the lakes, the mountains, the skies, the views. So much to see, so much to do, with activities for young and old alike. If you have been to the Lake District before you will know how it calls you back but if this is your first visit, one thing is for sure, you will want to go back again and again.

Keswick Country Manor is located in a commanding elevated position, close to the heart of Keswick, in the Lake District.
