It’s back to school – but this time, there’s no homework. The Old Village School in Devon is a beautifully restored Victorian school house, now a wonderfully sociable holiday home for 18 to 24 guests. With generous spaces for everyone to come together, two sunken hot tubs and a pretty half-acre garden, it’s an ideal setting for a relaxed get-together with friends, a special celebration or a low-key hen weekend.
Inside, the huge living space has room for everyone to spend time together. The well-equipped kitchen opens onto the dining area, keeping everyone at the heart of the action while meals are being prepared. When the sun is shining, head outside to the terrace for a barbecue, drinks and a soak in the hot tubs, with plenty of space for the whole group to enjoy the garden.
There’s plenty to keep everyone entertained, too. Challenge friends to a game of pool or table tennis, settle down with a board game or gather around the enormous 86” TV for a film night. The village setting, beside a river and on the edge of Dartmoor, also puts some of Devon’s best countryside and adventures within easy reach – perfect for days out before returning to the house for a relaxed evening together.
When it’s time to wind down, there are seven comfortable bedrooms, most with their own ensuite. There are several super king bedrooms, one particularly memorable room with two in-room bathtubs, a six-bed room with a fun bunk arrangement over two doubles, and an attached cottage annex sleeping up to six.

We’ve tried to think about everything to make your stay at The Old Village School just perfect. In all of our big houses to rent, we provide all the essential features to cater for a large group. Here’s a list of all the practical provisions we have at the house. If there’s anything you can’t see here but need, just ask as we’ll see what we can do.

What are the check in and check out times?
Check in is at 4pm on the day of your arrival and check out is at 10am (or 4pm if checking out on a Sunday).

How many cars can park at the property?
There is parking for 8+ cars at the property.

Are children welcome?
Children are very welcome at The Old Village School. Two travel cots and two highchairs are available on request (please bring your own cot linen). Children's toys, books and DVDs are also provided and there's an outdoor play area. Please note, parents should supervise children at all times around the play area and also as the two hot tubs are sunken into the decking.

Are pets allowed?
Well-behaved dogs are allowed at The Old Village School, subject to a fee of £25 per dog. Dogs are not allowed upstairs or on soft furnishings.

Are stag and hen parties allowed?
Respectful hen and stag parties are allowed at the property.

Are additional day guests allowed at the property?
Up to 50 additional day guests may be invited by prior agreement only. Please call us to discuss.

Can I arrange a supermarket delivery to the house?
Yes, you can order online with Tesco or Morrisons for a delivery direct to the house. We usually suggest booking a delivery for after 4pm on the day of arrival.

How many guests can sit at the dining table?
The two dining tables can seat up to 20 guests (there is also a dining table in the annex that can seat 4 guests).

The nearest train stations are Bere Alston (7 miles) or Plymouth (12 miles).

Will you hold a damage deposit during our stay?
Yes, we ask to hold a cautionary deposit of £1,000 during your stay at The Old Village School. This is requested just two weeks prior to your stay, and is returned shortly after, assuming no damage to the property or its contents (see our Booking T&Cs for more information).

How do I book?
You can check availability and pricing and place your booking request online, or by calling our team on 01242 352 747.
When booking, we ask for a deposit of 33% of the total price, with the balance due 12 weeks prior to your stay (or the full balance when booking within 12 weeks of your stay).
