Combe House Hero 1

Combe House The South West

Step deep into history in deepest Somerset

If you yearn to escape to a place of peace and beauty, stay at Combe House in the heart of Somerset. This country manor, down a mile-long driveway, oozes old English charm and elegance, with original marble fireplaces, polished antique furniture and imposing family portraits. Linger before the portrait of Major Walter Wingfield, who invented lawn tennis, or Olive Combe, winner of the 1898 All-England Women’s Singles Croquet Championship at Wimbledon, both ancestors of the current owners.

Enjoy Somerset views from almost every room, including the stately drawing room, which can be used for weddings and parties, and the cosy snug with its 65" TV, chesterfield sofas and log burner. There’s also a well-appointed country kitchen, formal dining room, and peaceful, wood-panelled library. And to keep you occupied, there’s a snooker room, six-person sauna, six-person hot tub and fully equipped gym.

In the 700-acre estate, wander through your own private forest, Grove and the Rose Walk, the topiary and the walled garden. Colourful flower borders scent your way and ancient oak and cedar trees offer shade. Don’t forget your fishing gear, as the estate is bordered by the River Isle, known for its large pike.

The bedrooms are supremely comfortable, whether you’re in a state suite with private sitting room, the four-poster room, or a bridal room with valley views. And on every floor, the central hallway is large enough to throw a party!

Details of the original estate are in the Domesday Book, and the house has been in the same family for over 250 years. A grand home, the central house is all yours, while the east and west wings are the private quarters of the family, who are on hand if you need them.

The house makes the perfect setting for a milestone birthday or a special anniversary, and with excellent in-house catering as an option, you can feel truly spoiled. For the ultimate indulgence, a fully catered stay can be arranged, where all meals can be taken care of and you won't have to lift a finger!

Topleft Bottomright

What we think

Combe House is grander than grand. It has been lovingly restored to provide space, elegance, and style throughout. It’s also the place where lawn tennis was created, by the ancestor of the owner who has so carefully refurbished it. And it has acres of private grounds to enjoy.
