If your idea of a country break includes banquets in a historic, double-height dining hall, games in a billiard room evocative of the roaring 20s, and views of one of England’s most picturesque landscapes, Broomstone House is for you. A picture-perfect Elizabethan manor just two hours from London - it sits at the foot of the Quantock Hills in Somerset in a nature-rich estate that includes an organic farm and ancient woodlands.
In restful rooms, where sunlight suffuses through leaded windows, relax into the calm luxury of soft textures, muted tones and cosy comforts including log burners, window seats and, in the snug, a velvet wraparound sofa in front of a 65-inch TV. Create those banquets in the kitchen, where there’s a seven-induction hob, three-oven Lacanche cooker and a kitchen island with a sociable breakfast bar.
Seven individually curated bedrooms echo the understated luxury of the reception rooms, and in the four ensuite and two shared bathrooms, roll top baths or rainfall showers leave you feeling pampered and refreshed.
Outside, in the walled garden, enjoy the dining area, wood-fired 'stock tank' hot tub and lawn (all new from April 2024, along with a Kadai wood-fired BBQ). A further acre of lawn is just right for badminton, croquet or boules. Within the estate, nature flourishes, with wildflower margins, bird and bee-friendly planting, and thoughtful landscaping to encourage a variety of habitats. Ancient woodlands, copses and spinneys break up the organic farmland and wild deer, goldfinches and rare fungi can all be spotted. Running from the estate to the coast, are 7,000 acres of open access countryside which, along with the Quantock Hills, provide unsurpassed walking, cycling and horse-riding opportunities.

We’ve tried to think about everything to make your stay at Broomstone House just perfect. In all of our country houses to rent, we provide all the essential features to cater for a large group. Here’s a list of all the practical provisions we have at the house. If there’s anything you can’t see here but need, just ask as we’ll see what we can do.

What are the check in and check out times?
Check in is at 4pm on the day of your arrival and check out is at 10am. An 11am check-out may be possible on request for an additional charge of £60.

How many cars can park at the property?
There is enough space for six cars to park at the front of the manor, and six more spaces around the side of the manor. There is overflow parking if you require parking for more than 12 cars.

Are children welcome?
Children are very welcome at Broomstone House. Two cots and two highchairs are available on request (please bring your own cot linen), as well as toddler/children’s cutlery and crockery.

Are pets allowed?
Up to three well-behaved dogs are allowed at Broomstone House, subject to a fee of £40 per dog. Dogs are only allowed in the dining hall, billiard room and kitchen and are not allowed on soft furnishings.

Are stag and hen parties allowed?
Respectful hen parties are permitted at Broomstone House. Stag parties (over 25s only) are sometimes permitted, but only by prior agreement with the property owner. Please contact us before booking to discuss.

How many guests can sit at the dining table?
The dining table can seat up to 16 guests.

Can I arrange a supermarket delivery to the house?
Yes, you can order online with Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons or Ocado for a delivery direct to the house. We usually suggest booking a delivery for after 4pm on the day of arrival.

Are there any works going on at the manor?
Please note that from 1st May 2024 to 31st July 2024, the owners will be undertaking critical structural repairs to the gatehouse. This will mean there will be scaffolding up at the entrance to the manor, so parking will be around the side. Pricing has been reduced to reflect this, although there will be very little impact on your stay.

The nearest train station is Taunton (7 miles / 15-minute drive). The train time from London Paddington is 1 hour 40 minutes.

What is the nearest airport?
The nearest airports are Exeter (36 miles) or Bristol (36 miles).

Will you hold a damage deposit during our stay?
Yes, we ask to hold a cautionary deposit of £1,000 during your stay at Broomstone House. This is requested just two weeks prior to your stay, and is returned shortly after, assuming no damage to the property or its contents (see our Booking T&Cs for more information).
