Netherstone Hall

Netherstone Hall North of England

An old Yorkshire manor with sweeping views and an indoor pool

With a centuries-old history, Netherstone Hall is a handsome Yorkshire hall, sumptuously refurbished for modern life. Sneak in through the servants door and follow the flagstone corridors to warm and inviting reception rooms which frame the Dales through stone mullion windows. Stylish décor complements an abundance of original features that include carved wood panelling, stained glass windows and huge fireplaces. The latter now furnished with wood burning stoves. Make your way to the kitchen, where there are counter bar stools for everyone, a long table for sociable breakfasts, and a window seat facing onto the gardens. You have everything you need here for conjuring up canapes, cocktails and celebration dinners. Gather in the drawing room, or the sitting room that still has the oak table of the previous owner from 1876. Escape to the library for a quiet read or get together for some fun in the games room.

Step through the house's original entrance, which now leads into the garden. Here, follow the tumbling brook up to the River Wharf, stopping for a picnic on the way. Discover the indoor pool in one of the old farm buildings; after a dip, head indoors to the sauna, putting the world to rights as you relax.

There’s a rumour that King Charles I slept here, and if his room was as lovely as today, it’s a wonder he ever left. He may have cast his eyes upon many of these original features, now joined by 21st century luxuries, such as the gorgeous ensuites. Netherstone Hall is surrounded by the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, which offer pretty towns, bluffs and dales for walking, and plenty of opportunities to try Wallace and Gromit’s favourite cheese, Wensleydale!
