Mead Country House is a rare gem of a country estate, combining timeless elegance with contemporary comforts. Comprising a Victorian country house and three characterful, restored buildings in 50 acres of gardens and grounds, it’s a delightful retreat close to the Somerset coast. Ornate cornices, restored ceiling roses and historical fireplaces blend with modern artworks, velvet sofas and soft colour schemes to create an ambiance of understated luxury. Relax together in the light-filled drawing room, where the bow window frames garden views, or spirit yourself away to the "old smoking room" and library for a quiet moment. Prepare meals on the commercial-grade oven in the country-style kitchen and dine in style in the richly furnished dining room. For play, splash in the indoor pool, relax in the Finnish sauna and work out in the gym.

Outside, wander through the rose garden or the apple orchard, play on the lawns or sit by the duck pond with a book. Keep the children happy with a visit to Puxton Park, a friendly adventure playground next door. When night falls, you may be sleeping in a carved four-poster, bathing in a freestanding bath in your room, or gazing at Somerset views.

There’s room for everyone; along with the five individually styled bedrooms in the main house, the retro-chic Coach House accommodates up to four guests, the Scandi-inspired Clocktower sleeps another six and The Duck House, with views over the lake and orchard, sleeps two. There is scope at Mead Country House to hold an event or a party, or just to be together as a family. Whatever your occasion, it’s one of those special places that fits itself around you effortlessly.

Mead Country House Main House Breakfast Room

We’ve tried to think about everything to make your stay at Mead Country House just perfect. In all of our big houses to rent, we provide all the essential features to cater for a large group. Here’s a list of all the practical provisions we have at the house. If there’s anything you can’t see here but need, just ask as we’ll see what we can do.

What are the check in and check out times?

Check in is at 3pm on the day of your arrival and check out is at 10am.
How many cars can park at the property?

There is parking for 20+ cars at Mead Country House.
Are children welcome?

Children are very welcome at Mead Country House. Two cots and two highchairs are available on request (please bring your own cot linen). Please note, parents should supervise children at all times due to the pond in the grounds and also around the indoor swimming pool.
Are pets allowed?

Sorry, pets are not allowed at Mead Country House.
Are stag and hen parties allowed?

Stag parties are not permitted at this property. Respectful hen parties (over 30s only) are sometimes permitted, but only with express permission from the property owner prior to booking. Please contact us to discuss.
Can I arrange a supermarket delivery to the house?

Yes, you can order online with Waitrose or Sainsbury's for a delivery direct to the property. We usually suggest booking a delivery for after 2pm on the day of arrival.
How many guests can sit at the dining table?

The dining table in the formal dining room of the main house has extension panels that can be added to seat up to 24 guests (on request).

What are the dimensions and depth of the swimming pool?

The dimensions of the pool are 6m x 10m with a depth of 1.5m.
Can I hold a large event at Mead Country House?

There are indoor spaces for up to 60 guests for corporate events, canape/buffet style meals and other gatherings and activities (a Victorian Conservatory and separate Cheese Room that was once used for storing and preserving food). There's also outdoor space to host events for up to 250 guests. Charges will depend on the type of event being held (please call us to discuss). Please note the indoor spaces are available for general use during your stay.
What is the nearest train station?

The nearest train station is Worle (2 miles).
What is the nearest airport?

The nearest airport is Bristol (10 miles).
Will you hold a damage deposit during our stay?

Yes, we ask to hold a cautionary deposit of £1,000 during your stay at Mead Country House. This is requested just two weeks prior to your stay, and is returned shortly after, assuming no damage to the property or its contents (see our Booking T&Cs for more information).
How do I book?

You can check availability and pricing and place your booking request online, or by calling our team on 01242 352 747.

When booking, we ask for a deposit of 33% of the total price, with the balance due 12 weeks prior to your stay (or the full balance when booking within 12 weeks of your stay).
