It’s back to school – in the best possible way. The Old Village School in Devon was a Victorian school house, now sensitively restored as a luxury holiday home for 18 to 24 guests. You can reassure the children there are no textbooks. Instead, there is an outdoor play area, an 86” TV screen surrounded by slouchy seats, and a games room where they can play table tennis, pool and board games. There’s a games console too, and small play area for the little ones.
And the grownups? Let’s start with the huge living space, which has room for everyone to spend time together. The kitchen is well equipped, with an open-plan dining room so the chefs are at the heart of the party. Spill out onto the terrace to find seating for everyone and two sunken hot tubs, where you can enjoy the privacy of the half-acre gardens.
Situated in a pretty village, beside a river and on the edge of Dartmoor, The Old Village School is perfect for adventures in Devon. After a busy day, you can return to the warmth of the wood burner, or a sunset barbecue on the terrace. When it’s time for bed, relax in the knowledge that there are seven restful bedrooms, most ensuite – one even has two in-room bathtubs. There are a number of super king bedrooms, a 6-bed family room which has a fun bunk bed arrangement over two doubles, and an attached cottage annex which sleeps up to six. If you can learn to relax anywhere, it’s The Old Village School, where the lessons are all about enjoying down time with those you love. It’s truly a class act!

We’ve tried to think about everything to make your stay at The Old Village School just perfect. In all of our big houses to rent, we provide all the essential features to cater for a large group. Here’s a list of all the practical provisions we have at the house. If there’s anything you can’t see here but need, just ask as we’ll see what we can do.

What are the check in and check out times?
Check in is at 4pm on the day of your arrival and check out is at 10am (or 4pm if checking out on a Sunday).

How many cars can park at the property?
There is parking for 8+ cars at the property.

Are children welcome?
Children are very welcome at The Old Village School. Two travel cots and two highchairs are available on request (please bring your own cot linen). Children's toys, books and DVDs are also provided and there's an outdoor play area. Please note, parents should supervise children at all times around the play area and also as the two hot tubs are sunken into the decking.

Are pets allowed?
Well-behaved dogs are allowed at The Old Village School, subject to a fee of £25 per dog. Dogs are not allowed upstairs or on soft furnishings.

Are stag and hen parties allowed?
Respectful hen and stag parties are allowed at the property.

Are additional day guests allowed at the property?
Up to 50 additional day guests may be invited by prior agreement only. Please call us to discuss.

Can I arrange a supermarket delivery to the house?
Yes, you can order online with Tesco or Morrisons for a delivery direct to the house. We usually suggest booking a delivery for after 4pm on the day of arrival.

How many guests can sit at the dining table?
The two dining tables can seat up to 20 guests (there is also a dining table in the annex that can seat 4 guests).

The nearest train stations are Bere Alston (7 miles) or Plymouth (12 miles).

Will you hold a damage deposit during our stay?
Yes, we ask to hold a cautionary deposit of £1,000 during your stay at The Old Village School. This is requested just two weeks prior to your stay, and is returned shortly after, assuming no damage to the property or its contents (see our Booking T&Cs for more information).

How do I book?
You can check availability and pricing and place your booking request online, or by calling our team on 01242 352 747.
When booking, we ask for a deposit of 33% of the total price, with the balance due 12 weeks prior to your stay (or the full balance when booking within 12 weeks of your stay).
