Newburrow Farm Somerset

Newburrow Farm The South West

A little gem in the heart of the Somerset countryside

When you stand in the garden or this large cottage and all you can hear is the cattle gently lowing and the birds chirruping in the trees, when there is a cider brandy manufacturer just down the road, and when New Road has been there for hundreds of years, then you know you are in the heart of the country. More specifically, you are in the heart of rural Somerset, a county that has won the hearts of its aficionados over many, many years. The place names evoke a long and fascinating history: Muchelney, Huish Episcopi, Compton Durville, Shepton Beauchamp.

This is a world that is at once timeless and delightfully modern. Take the location; the immediate surround has hardly changed over hundreds of years. But drive a little way to the quaint nearby market town of Langport and, as well as beautiful historic buildings, there is a bustling, thriving community that boasts wonderfully modern local amenities. And just half an hour’s drive takes you to the county town of Taunton, with tremendous restaurants, lively pubs, splendid shopping, horse racing, theatre and, of course Somerset County Cricket Club.

Or take the cottage itself. Dating back to 1564, this Grade II listed building exudes historic character whilst having luxury and style that you will only find in the very best modern boutique hotels. The modern extension has an open-plan kitchen/diner: ideal for lavish dinner parties, celebratory family meals or an informal supper. There is superfast broadband with Wi-Fi throughout, smart TVs and Bluetooth soundbars so you can play your own music into the wee small hours. And, true-to-form, the kitchen mixes low-beamed ceilings with superb modern facilities such as an American style fridge-freezer, a dishwasher, a microwave and, in the utility room, a washer dryer.

Guest Reviews

We had such a fantastic weekend catching up with friends and family. The house and grounds were beautiful and fit for purpose. The hot tubs were great fun and we felt thoroughly relaxed. The late check out was appreciated too! Thank you so much!

A wonderful 60th weekend. We were welcomed by a warm, bright and beautiful house. We loved the different spaces in the house and particularly the large kitchen and dining room with space for all 14 of us to share our meals.

Bed never felt this good

After a busy day out and about, there is nothing as nice as a comfy bed and a good night’s sleep. So lie back and relax in perfect luxury and splendid style. The property sleeps fifteen (or twist our arms and we can squeeze in a couple more on a sofa bed and a z-bed). There are seven bedrooms (four king size, two twin rooms and one with three single beds). There are five bathrooms, three of which are en suite. Each room has a Smart TV, luxury sprung and memory foam mattresses, luxurious bed linen and soft, fluffy towels.

Experience Life in the Country

Want to explore? There is plenty to see and do all within a few miles. With its gently undulating hills, this is a terrific area for walking and cycling. Breathe in the Somerset countryside air as you wander through the orchards that are used to create the famous Somerset ciders. Why not visit the cider brandy distillery and take a guided tour? Or pop into a fruit farm where you can buy fresh produce to help you create wonderful meals for all your guests. Visit the nearby villages, most of which have characterful village pubs where you can pop in for one of those ciders, or a pint of real ale, and a chat with the locals who will be only too happy to regale you with tales of the local mythology. Some of it may even be true! Ten minutes by car will take you to Barrington Court, a beautifully restored Tudor mansion now in the hands of the National Trust and set in the most beautiful, ever-changing gardens where you can while away a pleasant afternoon. Or take the twenty minute drive to the little town of Ilchester where you can experience life as it used to be lived and visit the Ilchester Museum which certainly has a story to tell: of history, conquest, heroism and treachery, of politics, prosperity and poverty. Or visit the local rifle range, try a spot of fishing, or simply relax in the gardens. Whatever you do, it helps to unwind in the two hot tubs, which are big enough to take the whole party. On balmy summer evenings, barbecue on the gas BBQ and enjoy the sun going down as you chew the cud and reflect on your day’s activities.
