CUMBRIAN SECLUSION WITH A SPLASH OF STYLE
Tarndale Hall does things its own way. From the outside, a study in classic Georgian architecture. From the inside? A glorious blend of history and modernity with a plethora of show-stopping features.
Let’s start in the drawing room, where the magnificent four-metre high fireplace is a sight to behold. It’s now home to a wood burner, casting a rosy glow over the room. The children can peel off to the TV lounge, where the 65-inch screen, Sky package and PlayStation can do the babysitting.
Meanwhile, gather in the sociable heart of this Georgian gem, the open-plan kitchen and dining room. Meals are a breeze on the nine-burner Ilve gas cooker (yes, nine!) and good company is guaranteed, with a row of bar stools pulled up to the marble countertop. Or gather for cocktails in the orangery, complete with bar, baby grand piano and outside seating area, which has a huge table where dinners can be as chilled or formal as the mood takes you.
Play pool in the games room, then head outside to the three-acre gardens, looking for the pheasants, hedgehogs and tawny owls. Many exclusive holiday houses have an outdoor hot tub, but the one at Tarndale Hall takes some beating. It’s a glorious copper jacuzzi, and the perfect spot from which to stargaze.
The quirky style and high quality finishes continue into the six bedrooms, where you might have a freestanding copper bath, a walk-in wet room, or even a bathtub on the balcony! And the children will love the bunk bed dorm.
Situated at the foot of the North Pennines, Tarndale Hall might feel miles from anywhere, but it’s only a short walk to the local pub award-winning for lunch. Just perfect, really.
