Welcome to Wales, where just a hop across the border from England feels like you've entered a new world entirely. This compact country boasts inspiring hills, formidable castles and moody coastlines of crumbling rock and golden sand.
The clean lines of a thoroughly modern makeover give way to ancient beams and inglenook fireplaces, in a successful marriage of contemporary and traditional styles. Explore the house, starting in the comfortable lounge on the first floor, where you will have a struggle to drag yourself away from the picture window that frames the Quantock views.
Downstairs, the large modern kitchen opens out to indoor and outdoor dining areas for up to 20 people.
Keep looking and you’ll find another lounge with comfy sofas and a pool table. Other diversions include the full Sky TV package, books and board games, Bluetooth docking stations and a flat-screen TV in every bedroom.
Outside, the hot tub is huge and inviting, but first, have a wander through the private gardens and spend a moment soaking up the Somerset views from the circular summerhouse.
A four-poster bed here, an oak-clad wall there. Luxury sprung mattresses and crisp bed linen everywhere. Each bedroom has the luxuries in place while oozing its own distinctive style.
En-suites are as individual as the bedrooms, some with weathered wood finishes, others boutique hotel-style, with waterfall showers in some and roll-top baths in others.
Sleep comes quickly in the soft Somerset silence, where only the hoot of an owl may carry on the air. And, as the sun rises, wake to views that will hold you spellbound.
As you gaze from the summerhouse, you see a landscape that cries out for you to get your walking boots on. Walk from your doorstep and you are amidst the Quantock Hills. A short drive brings you to Exmoor, where Dunkery Beacon is worth the challenge.
Explore chocolate-box villages – Dunster is a must – and stop off at the quaint harbour villages on the Somerset coast. Add to the agenda, family days out to Longleat, Bath and even Bristol. Visit the caves at Cheddar and the castle at Taunton.
Back at Green’s Hill House, downtime means a game or two of pool, dinner on the terrace and then sinking into the hot tub and watching the sun set on another glorious day.
