RUSTIC LUXURY ON THE CORNISH COAST

If location is everything, Barford Beach House is a winner, overlooking a bay on the North Cornwall coast. Location, though, is only part of the story. The fabulous interiors at Barford Beach House bring together natural materials with a contemporary flourish, creating an ambience of rustic luxury for your group holiday in Cornwall.

Spread yourselves out in the open-plan living space where deep tones are lifted by the clear, coastal light that floods through floor-to-ceiling windows, reflecting off copper-clad walls. The chef will love the kitchen, with dual control Aga, Fischer Paykel fridge freezer and sea views. Keep them company at the Persian oak dining table or sink into velvet sofas before the sitting room log burner.

Drop to the basement bar for the pool table, arcade games and sound system. Slip into the cinema room for a James Bond movie, then discover the spa where sliding doors access the sauna and cold bucket drop! On sunny days, lounge on the sea-facing terrace or wend your way to the beach with the kids before returning to the thrill of the wood-fired hot tub. For days out, decamp to the beach at Widemouth Bay or Bude, visit Tintagel Castle, and follow the South West Coast Path almost from the door.

At bedtime, the big question is who’s in the master suite, complete with sitting area and log burner? If it’s not you, don’t worry, the six spacious bedrooms are all gorgeous, with 400 thread-count Egyptian linen and private bathrooms. All but one enjoy sea views and there are four bunks for children. Barford Beach House is a true one-off, where location and luxury collide to create unforgettable experiences.

Guest Reviews

Barford Beach House is an amazing experience. From seeing it from the coastal path walk and being blown away 5 years ago, we have just completed our second stay - and hope for more. A great place to take our extended family to spend time together and relax.

Dave, Whitchurch

What a fantastic stay we had at Barford Beach House. We went as a family group and had a magical time, the house was incredibly comfortable and well equipped - beautifully designed and had so many lovely extras to make it feel a luxurious stay; hot tub, sauna, but best of all access to a private beach via a little path at the end of the garden. We spent many a sunset and happy hour crabbing there. We would return in a heartbeat!

House FAQS

  • Can I access the beach from the house?

Yes, you can access Wanson Mouth Beach from Barford Beach House. The lovely little beach the house looks out onto is privately owned by the other residents of the hamlet. We are lucky enough to have right of access to it from the gate off the lawn. Please treat it with respect and leave no litter or dog mess. It is not recommended to swim from this beach due to the rocks. The shore is protected by heavily striated rocks which make wonderful rock pools stuffed with crabs, shrimps, snails and anemones – take a net and see what you can discover!

  • What other beaches are in the area?

This is such a wonderful area for excellent beaches. For a change of scenery, we'd recommend:

Widemouth Bay – Bude EX23 0AW (15 mins walk or 3 mins drive)

Just a 15 minute walk along the famous South West Coast Path up the steps and over the hill to Black Rock Beach which links on to Widemouth Bay, both excellent swimming beaches with designated coastguard protected swimming areas (May-Sep).

    Summerleaze Beach - Bude EX23 8HN (14 mins drive)

Head into Bude and follow the signs for Summerleaze Beach, it’s a beautiful wide golden sandy beach with a newly revamped sea pool, excellent cafes and there are even beach huts for hire.

Crackington Haven Beach - Bude EX23 9JG (14 mins drive)

A beautiful beach with rock pools, a stony area for those who hate sand in their sandwiches and a sandy section at low tide for those all important sandcastles or games of beach cricket. Two cafes and a pub plus parking make this a perennial favourite.

  • What are the check in and check out times?

Check in is at 4pm on the day of your arrival at Barford Beach House, and check out is at 10am.

  • Can I arrange a supermarket delivery to the house?

Yes, Waitrose and Sainsbury's deliver to Barford Beach House. We usually suggest booking a delivery for after 4pm on the day of arrival.

  • Can you recommend any good local places to eat?

Yes, Cornwall has many wonderful places to eat. We recommend the following, all not too far from Barford Beach House.

Temple Cornwall - Bude (10 mins drive)

Excellent innovative menu with attached curated fashion and homeware shop.

Bangors Organic - Bude (4 mins drive)

A restaurant and B&B so open all the time. Amazing restaurant set in beautiful grounds serving the freshest seasonal organically grown food, most of it grown on site. It is an award-winning B&OrganicB and Restaurant and also has a Farm Shop selling exclusively organic produce.

Outlaws Fish Kitchen - Port Isaac (38 mins drive)

Two-star Michelin fish chef Nathan Outlaw has opened a quirky little place in charming Port Isaac. Their menu “celebrates small, original and delicious seafood plates. Cooked to order and served when ready”.

Rick Stein’s Seafood Restaurant - Padstow (58 mins drive)

Open 12-2.30pm and 6.30-10pm every day except Christmas Day. Some might say a trip to Cornwall is incomplete without a wander over to Rick Stein's, whether his infamously hard-to-reserve main restaurant, or the Brasserie and the Fish & Chip shop, which are much easier for drop-in visits.

    PUBS AND CAFES

Widemouth Manor Pub - Widemouth Bay (3 mins walk)

Our nearest and most excellent local pub (walk out of the drive, go straight on, follow the road around the corner). They have generously portioned food, a huge grassy garden with crazy golf and children’s play area. Well worth a visit.

Black Rock Café - Black Rock Beach, near Widemouth Bay (13 mins walk, 2 mins drive)

Usually open 9.30am-3.30pm (longer in summer/when it's sunny/when it's busy). The café is open all year round with variable opening hours. They sell a selection of seaside favourites including cheesy chips, pasties and homemade soup as well as serving Cornish lager and other drinks. Stopping off for a hot chocolate is highly recommended after a chilly dip in the sea.

The Beach House - Widemouth Bay (20 mins walk, 3 mins drive)

Very handy pub/café/restaurant with a few bedrooms to rent. Attached to the back and side of this building are 2 separate very useful shops: a Surf and Wetsuit hire shop and the Fresh Fish shop.

The Bayview Inn - Widemouth Bay (25 mins walk, 5 mins drive)

Busy pub with excellent views selling standard pub food. Often have a bouncy castle in the summer months to keep the children happy while you enjoy some peace. We recommend drinking a pint out in the sunshine on the terrace for those awesome sea views.

The Wier - Marham Church - Bude (6 mins drive)

Opening hours 9am-4.30pm every day and open ‘til 8 pm on Friday and Saturdays. Interesting eco development with great food and large outdoor playground for children.

Life’s a Beach Café - Summerleaze Beach (12 mins drive)

Open 10.30am-3.30pm every day and open for evening meals 7pm-8.30pm everyday except Sunday and Monday. Brilliant licensed café with delicious food overlooking Summerleaze Beach – great for hot chocolates, a cheeky beer or a full meal.
