Mereview Manor Hero

Mereview Manor North of England

Georgian gorgeousness in a prime lakeside location

On the shores of Lake Windermere and sheltered by majestic trees which are surely as old as the house itself, Mereview Manor is a picture of stately Georgian symmetry.

As Lake District properties go, this is among the very best – for location, for beauty and for supreme comfort for up 18 guests. The moment you arrive, the welcoming warmth of the manor envelops you. Grab a drink and gather in the handsome drawing room, where the tall sash windows frame lake views and allow the soft Cumbrian light to wash over the room. Breakaway groups will find the library with board games and books or discover the TV room with its 65” TV, Sky Q and funky 70s vibe.

Eventually, everyone will be drawn to the kitchen diner. A designer surprise with a sweep of glass doors onto the lakeside garden, it is luxury in every sense of the word, from the marble tops and wealth of appliances to the panoramic Lakeland views. If you can bear to leave this amazing space, the formal dining room offers a change of internal scenery, drawing respectfully on its Georgian heritage, with a grand table to seat everyone and family portraits hung against rich ruby walls.

Mereview Manor stands in its own grounds within a glorious 5,000-acre estate, a landscape that inspired Wordsworth’s famous contemplation on daffodils as well as Coleridge, Ruskin and Beatrix Potter. As you explore the estate, you can’t help but feel a sense of what inspired these gifted writers, poets and artists.

There’s plenty to do here, from picnics and barbecues overlooking the lake to swimming in the estate pool, just a 10-minute walk away, but you may find yourself simply soaking up the views with a feeling of contentedness. Let the feeling carry you to a restful sleep in one of the eight sumptuous bedrooms, all ensuite and with views of the woodlands or the lake. There’s a further double room in the quaint little Coachman’s Cottage.

All in all, Mereview Manor has the location, the charm and the space for some precious, quality time with family or friends.
