The Georgian Lakehouse

And live out your childhood dreams

line

You probably already know that England’s Lake District is one of the most beautiful places on earth. What you may not know is that this house, lying in the heart of the Lake District, is equally stunning in its own right. The main house sleeps sixteen guests with a separate lodge for six additional guests. These are wonderfully welcoming properties, inviting you to curl up in comfort after a long day, willing you to have cosy fireside chats over a preprandial aperitif.

Whatever the weather, you will love spending time in the quiet sitting room, a warm, sunny room windows overlooking the garden, the marina and on to the beautiful Derwent Water. The Tartan room, which is the main hub of the house, has the most wonderful bookshelves, a log-burning stove, comfy sofas, great art and a table nestled in front of the window that is just perfect for family games. And we love the TV room, just perfect for cosying up on the comfy seating in front of the 55 inch TV with wifi sound bar and DVD. This really is a house for relaxing with your friends and your family, spending quality time together and building lasting bonds.

Prices from £3,750

All that country air is bound to give you an appetite…

What is your preferred option for eating during your stay? Eating out? Self-catering or having specialists prepare it all for you? Or possibly a mixture of all three. Whatever your preferences, we’ve got it covered. The dining room and kitchen area is ideal for informal meals or celebratory dinners. We love the locally made oak table, which comfortably seats up to twenty people. With candelabras, stunning modern art, and lovely views of the mountains and lake this really is something a little bit special.

Cooking connoisseurs (and novices alike) will love the modern kitchen, equipped with two ovens, two fridges, two freezers, a warming drawer, microwave, two dishwashers and even a wine fridge. There is an induction hob and even a couple of stools at the central island for sipping a glass of wine while you’re waiting for the carrots to steam! Alternatively, if you’d rather leave the slog to the experts, we offer everything from casseroles dropped off ready for the oven to waitress-served in-house catering. And, if you have little ones with you, we have three high chairs available if you need them.

If you’d rather eat out, there is plenty of fine cuisine on offer at one of the local local pubs or restaurants. The Farmer’s Arms is only a ten minute stroll, and The Chalet Restaurant, which brilliant combines informality and style, is just five minutes away. Keswick also offers great dining out; we love Morrels and The Pheasant Inn but to be honest, half the fun is investigating to find out which restaurant best suits you.

And after a busy day, what better than a good night’s sleep?

line

The fresh country air, busy days and wonderful food will leave you longing for a warm, comfortable bed and a good night’s sleep. Well that is sorted too in this wonderful property. The main house sleeps sixteen people in eight glorious bedrooms, all en suite. The lodge in the grounds sleeps another six in three double bedrooms, two of which are en suite. In fact, three of the rooms in the main house are full suites with superb views across the lake and the surrounding fells. There are six king size doubles and two twin bedrooms in the main house, and two king and one standard double in the lodge. And, if access is a problem, we have that sorted too. One of the rooms on the ground floor of the main house is suitable for anyone who may find stairs difficult or is wheelchair bound. There is a sliding door into the en suite wet room, and it is equipped with handrails to assist in showering etc. All the bedrooms have built in wardrobes and drawers, a dressing table, television and hair dryer. And the little ones are welcome too: we have three cots and a baby monitor available.

Out and about

line

What can you do in the Lake District? Lots! You don’t even have to leave the grounds to have fun! There are cricket and croquet sets, footballs and plenty of other fun activities you can do right there in our extensive grounds. And not very far away you can find: clay pigeon shooting, archery, off-road driving, go karting, quad biking, and paintballing. There are some wonderful walks straight from the house, and kayaking, sailing and canoeing are all available from the marina a few hundred yards away. If you don’t fancy hiking the hills, or climbing the fells you can always jump in the car and head off on some of the most scenic tours in the country.

Why not head over to Keswick? It’s only a 20-minute walk or a quick ride on the launch. You can while away a leisurely morning browsing round the characterful shops, boutiques, pubs, cafes and restaurants. There is even a theatre and, if time permits, it is well worth taking in a show. And it has a fascinating history for you to explore.

But for us, the landscape always beckons; the lakes, the mountains, the skies, the views. So much to see, so much to do, with activities for young and old alike. If you have been to the Lake District before you will know how it calls you back and if this is your first visit one thing is for sure, you will want to go back again and again

Things to do

Keswick is a short drive or 20 minute walk from The Georgian Lakehouse. Keswick is packed with shops, boutiques, pubs, cafes and restaurants. Keswick is the UK’s Adventure Capital – and the North Lakes are well known for their breathtaking views and fantastic outdoor activities – from the gentle to the extreme.

Some suggested things to do:

  • Theatre by the Lake in Keswick; Cumbria’s only year-round producing theatre.
  • Jennings Brewery a traditional brewer using Pure Lakeland water for brewing.
  • Keswick Golf Club with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding Lakeland Fells, including Blencathra, Skiddaw and the Helvellyn range.
  • Armathwaite Spa, is only a ten minute drive away, or pampering and beauty treatments can be arranged at the house.

And for the children:

  • Derwentwater Marina is just a few hundred yards away. From their moorings you can go sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, kayaking, ghyll scrambling, rock climbing and raft-building sessions. There are also canoes, kayaks, sailing dinghies, windsurfers and rowing boats for hire. The lake is just waiting to be explored.
  • Keswick Adventure Centre offers canyoning, Ghyll Scrambling, White Water Tubing and Water Rollerz and more!
  • Keswick Climbing and Activity Centre is a dedicated indoor climbing wall in the Lake District catering for all ages and abilities. A wide range of things to do from indoor climbing and archery and a whole host of outdoor activities.
  • Go Ape at Whinlatter Forest Park. Ride zip slides trough skies, over water and in England’s only true mountain forest.
  • Honister. Take a tour of Englands last working slate mine. Follow the original miners route to the summit of Fleetwith Pike, safely attached to a steel cable. No previous climbing experience is needed.
  • Lake District Wildlife Park is great for younger children, and is home to hundreds of friendly animals including traditional favourites, endangered species, birds of prey and reptiles. A great day out.
