Old Mill Barns Heart of England

This is the perfect place if you want to cater for yourselves and get together with a large group of family and friends! The Old Mill has a whopping 20m long kitchen, lovely white china and quality cutlery, electric and Aga ovens, hot trays and cabinets.

The Stables boasts an additional kitchen, so you can see that for those of you who enjoy cooking, preparing a scrumptious meal for everyone can be easy and fun.

But, if cooking’s not your thing, or you just want to relax and be looked after, we can put you in touch with our preferred cooks who can cater for your every whim or drop off meals by arrangement. Or, if the weather’s fine, why not barbecue? And if you’d rather head out for the evening, there are several fine places to eat less than ten minutes’ drive away.

We’ve tried to think about everything to make your stay at Old Mill Barns just perfect. In all of our country houses to rent, we provide all the essential features to cater for a large group. Here’s a list of all the practical provisions we have at the house. If there’s anything you can’t see here but need, just ask as we’ll see what we can do.

Old Mill Barns lie in a village that sits right on top of Offa’s Dyke so you can see that it is steeped in the history of this fascinating area on the Welsh/English border. Although now firmly English, at one time much of the area was Welsh-speaking. Spend a day in the cathedral city of Hereford, half an hour's drive away. The cathedral itself is worth the journey. Dating from 1079 it houses the famous Mappa Mundi, a medieval map of the world dating from the 13th century. While you’re there, why not visit the Cider Museum, or take a stroll along the banks of the River Wye? Or spend the day shopping or sipping coffee in one of the many cafes in the bustling High Town centre.

Away from the city, Herefordshire’s Golden Valley winds its way between the Black Mountains and the banks of the River Dore. Visit Hay-on-Wye or the village of Dorstone, or down to Peterchurch, Vowchurch and Abbey Dore to Ewyas Harold at the south of the Golden Valley. These historic villages, set in beautiful, untouched Herefordshire countryside, conjure up a time gone by in a way that can only be experienced by being there. Pictures, videos and books can never quite capture the magic and charm of the area. And the gently rolling landscape makes it an ideal place for walkers.

And for those of you who like something a bit more active, there is loads on offer: golf, fishing, canoeing, cycling, horse riding, clay pigeon shooting, Nordic walking, wild swimming and so much more.
