An historic country house WITH DISTANT AND UNINTERRUPTED VIEWS

Garden Court is a stunning, historic property just outside the village of Bodenham in Herefordshire, sleeping 18 guests, with the potential to accommodate up to 31 guests. It has been sensitively restored, with exquisite attention to detail and is now available for exclusive bookings. The main house sleeps up to 18 guests in nine gorgeous bedrooms. It’s a dream of a house in a dream setting. Layers of history are carefully blended with modern comforts in the welcoming rooms, and the social spaces lend themselves to easy-going, formal or informal gatherings.

Outside, the sweeping lawns give way to views across the rolling Herefordshire countryside. The grounds are the crowning glory of this property and outside there is space to gather up to 250 guests for a special occasion or corporate event in a marquee or tipi, or up to 100 guests for an indoor event when you also use the wonderful large bar space adjacent to the house. Need more space?

There is the potential to accommodate up to 31 guests at Garden Court for an additional cost, with extra put-up beds and a sofa bed in the main house for up to six guests, and a separate coach house which can accommodate up to seven guests. Please see the list of bedrooms PDF below or call for more details. The coach house is situated at the end of the tree-lined drive, tucked away in its own gardens.

What an amazing place! Stayed here with some friends for a chilled weekend. Everything you could want/need with amazing amenities but with so much authentic charm. Loved the wood fireplaces and all the bathrooms/bedrooms were modern. The bar is super fun too! Little tip - we got some eggs from "Lloyds luscious eggs" farm just a few houses down the lane...deeeelicious! Perfect house for a getaway.

Wow - what an amazing place! Set in beautiful grounds with 9 bedrooms, this was the perfect place for our multi-generation, 4-night family gathering. The beds were very comfy, the bathrooms newly renovated and the owners couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. They provided highchairs, kids' beds and a room full of toys for the little ones, and some fizz for the older ones :) The highlight of our week was the outdoor pizza oven night - thank you so much Frances and Alex for everything you did to make our stay here so special - you made our 9,000 mile round trip worth every penny :)

We had a long weekend here for my 50th birthday with 3 other families, with a range of ages of teenagers and young adults. We all had a fabulous time - the bedrooms and bathrooms are lovely and immediately made people feel they were having a real treat from the moment they took their things up. The big living/dining rooms with real fires (ready laid for us) were great and the kitchen and house were perfectly equipped for a big group with lots of fridge/freezer/oven space and large pots, pans and serving dishes - important if you are cooking for 18! We enjoyed using the outdoor pizza oven and fire pits and the pool table and croquet lawn were particularly popular. Wouldn't look anywhere else if I was booking a special occasion for the same size group again.

Cosy rooms with rustic charm FOR CONVIVIAL GET-TOGETHERS

The downstairs rooms are made cosy by squishy sofas, oak beams and log fires. A delightful snug and two large lounges provide the social spaces for relaxing, while a modern, well-equipped kitchen, breakfast room and formal dining room set the scene for memorable meal times. Enjoy a few games in the pool room, break out the board games for some family fun or find a quiet corner in the snug and curl up with a book.

Outside, there is space for adventures in the woods, for soaking up the sun on the south facing lawns, and for romantic walks in the rose garden. There’s also a wonderful walled kitchen garden and an orchard to explore. If you are planning a party or event, it can take place in any number of outdoor spaces, including the fold yard, the lawns or the woodlands. There are beautiful indoor options too, for your celebrations, including the low-beamed barn, which can be bedecked with fairy lights for a magical atmosphere.

What to Expect

Bowley Court Fire Pit

We’ve tried to think about everything to make your stay at Garden Court just perfect. In all of our big houses to rent, we provide all the essential features to cater for a large group. Here’s a list of all the practical provisions we have at the house. If there’s anything you can’t see here but need, just ask as we’ll see what we can do.

  • Luxury linen and fluffy towels
  • Wood panelled dining room, seating 22 (up to 32 on request - no extra charge)
  • Breakfast room seats 8-10 plus the kitchen table seats 6-8
  • Logs for the fireplaces and fire pit
  • Ultrafast Wi-Fi internet access throughout
  • Incredible 5 acres of gardens (within the 22-acre Estate) including south-facing, luscious lawns, a David Austin rose garden, walled kitchen garden, orchard and woods 
  • Library/games room with pool table
  • A separate second games room with table tennis table, small children’s play area, and a cinema area for DVDs (provided). You can also stream from your own device (connects to a projector) 
  • Croquet lawn and garden games (available in spring, summer and autumn)
  • Toast marshmallows around the fire pit at dusk, sip some wine and share some stories
  • Clay pizza oven (£50 set up and cleaning fee)
  • 32 inch TV in snug with PlayStation 3 to play DVDs and games (a selection is provided)
  • Sound bar (can be linked to a phone via Bluetooth)
  • Hot tub hire is available (booked directly with a recommended supplier) – prices are from £235 for a weekend
  • Well-equipped modern kitchen with two dishwashers, two double ovens, 5 burner hob, microwave, three large fridges (split between the kitchen and utility) and 2 freezers (ice provided)
  • English sparkling wine, cider and apple juice are available to purchase, made from the owners' own vineyard and orchard

Location

In the rural Herefordshire village of Bodenham. Go wildlife watching at Bodenham Lake and the River Lugg, which runs through the village or take a drive to the city of Hereford and visit the cider museum and see the Mappa Mundi in Hereford Cathedral. Spend an afternoon tootling along the black and white village trail and, if you’re travelling in spring, visit the cider orchards to see the trees in blossom.
