Campden House Cotswolds

Campden Retreat Heart of England

A honey-coloured haven in the heart of England’s glorious Cotswold Hills

Many of our houses are situated far from civilisation, which is great. But it’s nice to find a property that enjoys all the benefits of those rural retreats with the convenience of local wining and dining just a short stroll away. This mellow stone, oak-beamed five bedroom home on the edge of Chipping Campden in the Cotswolds, has a sauna, cinema room, swimming pool and great gardens. With stylish décor and state-of-the-art facilities, it is pure joy.

The central focus of the house is the light and airy living room, with its flagstone flooring and large luxurious rugs. At one end there is a woodburning stove and at the other, a widescreen TV and Baby Grand piano. Can’t play? No worries! We can book a local pianist for private performances! The study is great for some quiet time away and the lower ground floor has an indoor swim jet heated pool with a sculptured ceramic feature wall. Check out the large cedar sauna with its rainbow LED lighting. There is also a cinema room with a giant two-metre-wide projector screen complete with surround sound and home cinema equipment. A comfortable sofa unit runs around the room. Even the stairs in this property are impressive with their cast iron balustrade and a central Bruce Munro-designed chandelier.

Guest reviews

We had a wonderful time celebrating my husband's 50th at Campden Retreat. This gorgeous thatched cottage is so well equipped and so beautifully styled. We simply could not have chosen a better option for a fabulous weekend we'll always remember! Thank you so much.

A dream holiday home

If the living room is the central focus of the house, the kitchen is its beating heart. The stylish Loxleys oak kitchen, has a limestone tiled floor, granite worktops, a seven-ring gas range with a griddle and two large ovens (one with facility for pizza/bread baking), combination oven, microwave, dishwasher and an American style fridge freezer. It has a large timber table that seats ten: ideal for breakfast, lunch or a relaxing supper. The French doors open out onto a large south-facing terrace with a seating area and BBQ. For more formal dining, the elegant dining room features a beautiful ten-seater oval dining table. And the décor is pure luxury and elegance combined.

And so to bed…

There are five double bedrooms: four are en suite and there is one family bathroom. They are all wonderfully and individually designed with Hypnos beds, wall mounted headboards, TV/DVD players, fitted cupboards and smashing upholstered chairs. The master suite has a four-poster, super-king-size bed in oak and a raised, oval bath designed for two, looking out at the surrounding countryside. Like the bedrooms, the bathrooms have different designs ranging from black marble, to stone and mosaic tiling, all fitted out with top-of-the-range grandeur from Grohe and Duravit.

Location

Set in the perfect location for exploring the Cotswolds; just a short walk from the picture-perfect town of Chipping Campden in Gloucestershire.

Plenty to see and plenty to do

The large landscaped gardens open out onto a rolling meadow and the terrace adjacent to the kitchen makes the perfect ‘al fresco’ dining spot with built-in seating, table and a BBQ. A stroll takes you into Chipping Campden, one of the loveliest small towns in the Cotswolds. Steeped in history, it is well worth exploring and soaking up some of England’s fascinating past. The High Street is a designated conservation area that ensures the days of yore continue to live on. But it’s not just a place to gawp; you can immerse yourself in its delights with a visit to one of the pubs or restaurants. We love The Chef’s Dozen, a lovely friendly restaurant, and the Eight Bells is great for an evening pint. But don’t take our word for it. The best thing to do is try them out for yourselves!

You can visit the town’s museum, or hire a bike and explore further afield. And, of course, the area is great for walking. Just six minutes in the car will take you to Broadway Golf Club with its superb views across the Vale of Evesham to the Malvern Hills and the Black Mountains. But best of all, this is one of the few big country houses that you can experience in style even if you leave the car at home. And if you want to do that, we can arrange for a taxi to pick you up from the station! Now that’s what I call a holiday!
