Lake Windermere House

Lake Windermere House North of England

Uninterrupted luxury accommodation
WITH SPECTACULAR VIEWS ACROSS THE LAKE

This stunning modern 5-bedroom house lies right on millionaires row Windermere, on the shores of Lake Windermere in the Lake District where the lake laps on the pebbles at the bottom of the garden and the jetty allows you to take your kayak onto the legendary waters of the lake. And while all the beauty of Lakeland is there for you to explore, you can bask in the comfort of this stunningly-designed house or explore the nearby town of Bowness, which is just a couple of minutes away in the car.

I don’t know; maybe it’s the antlers decorating the rooms, perhaps it’s the warm plaid fabrics and the faux-fur rugs; it could be the giant antler chandelier in the living room or the large windows opening onto the garden; whatever it is, it recreates the feel of a luxurious hunting lodge. There is a family room with a Stuv wood burner, great for cosy late night chats over a hot drink and a game of Trivial Pursuit. There is a cinema room with a giant 65 inch screen, and a wickedly comfortable Mah Jong sofa from Roche Bobois. Then there is the games room with its 8ft pool table and another flat screen TV. There really is something for everyone and for every occasion.

Guest reviews

This is a house that absolutely oozes quality throughout. Having stayed in many upmarket holiday homes, I can quite honestly say this was the best. My (grown up) kids loved the facilities such as the private cinema and games room. My wife and I just couldn't get enough of the breathtaking views across the lake. This really is something special - thank you to you and your team for suggesting it and all the help offered. Well done Big House Experience!

We booked a special family holiday in the Lake District through Big House Experience. From start to finish the experience was 5-star...Lake Windermere House was all that was described and more. Private, well-equipped, spacious and in a stunning location immediately overlooking the lake.

Cook overlooking the lake

The kitchen features stone surfaces and quality appliances by Gaggenau, with Ralph Lauren, Andrew Martin and Van Thiel furniture. No expense has been spared in creating this fantastic property. It has all the latest mod-cons including a convenient ‘Quooker’ tap and three cookers! Food preparation becomes a pleasure in surroundings like these. The breakfast area’s oak dining table and benches overlook the lake, perfectly positioned to catch the sun at breakfast time. And the formal dining area has a wonderful 3.5m bespoke log edge oak table made by Whetstone Oak. Tucked out of the way, the downstairs utility area has a boot room, cloakroom with shower and laundry facilities, perfect for guests who have come to enjoy active days in the mountains or on the lake.

Bedrooms for everyone!

The glass and stainless steel staircase leads to five en-suite bedrooms with floor to ceiling windows, four with uninterrupted lake views, and three with balconies. The bedrooms are large, with comfy ViSpring beds, two of which can be converted into twins. The master bedroom and ‘room one’ both have oval baths overlooking Lake Windermere, perfect for a sunset bathe. Luxury is completed by all the bathrooms having Mandarin Stone walls and giant Drench showers. Bliss.

Exploring the Lake District

The Lake District is renowned for its beauty and the wide range of activities. From the house you can go kayaking off the jetty or take one of the many walks that allow you to soak in the beauty of the area. There are endless trails around the lakes and for the serious walker there are more strenuous mountain climbs. Or hire a bike. Windermere Cycle Hire Centre is at the Windermere Railway Station platform. As an alternative you can go horse riding from one of the many riding centres close by. Or why not simply go for a cruise? They are available on many of the area’s lakes. Or visit a castle or wonderful garden such as Wray Castle set amongst woodland on the western shores of Lake Windermere with oodles of history and some great stories to tell. Or Holker Hall where there are lots of kids’ play areas and places to picnic. Indeed, nearby Bowness-on-Windermere is now one of the main centres for outdoor activities in the whole of the country and there are loads of adventure activity companies so whatever your favourite pursuits, you are bound to find something to suit you. And it’s worth a visit to St Martin’s Church, built in 1483. The area behind the church is the oldest part of Bowness, an entanglement of narrow streets known as Lowside, which gives an insight into the area’s past.

Location

In the perfect spot, directly on the shores of Lake Windermere, with the pretty town of Bowness just a couple of minutes' drive away.
